Old Dominick Distillery landmark rooftop sign approved by Design Review Board

Old Dominick Distillery is pleased to announce that the Downtown Memphis Commission’s Design Review Board approved the new distillery’s sign package, featuring a vintage-look neon rooftop sign that’s sure to become an iconic landmark in the Downtown Memphis cityscape.

Old Dominick Distillery is a 50,000 square-foot set of historic industrial buildings on South Front, restored as a full-service grain-to-glass spirits distillery.  Beyond bringing true craft production to Downtown, Old Dominick Distillery will welcome guests for tours, tastings, events, and retail spirits sales.  A 5,000 sq-ft restaurant is being developed by an independent operator to-be-announced.  Old Dominick opens in 2017.

The pre-prohibition brand was once proudly displayed in painted Old Dominick Whiskey ads on the sides of Downtown buildings.

For Old Dominick’s revival, the new signs were designed as an updated take on vintage factory branding, while also complementing the historic and current-day context of the surrounding warehouse, entertainment, riverfront, and arts districts.

"While we still have several months to go, the spirit of the building is taking form. Much like the aging process of whiskey, creative renovation takes time that will all be worth the wait.” said Alex Canale, Old Dominick Distillery owner and great great grandson of Domenico Canale, founder of the Old Dominick Brand.

In addition to reinvigorating the block of empty industrial buildings, the distillery is creating other visible changes for the South Front neighborhood.  Shiny grain silos, soon to hold rich, choice grains that will be transformed into Memphis-made spirits, now stand along Wagner Place.  Plus new sidewalks, street trees and lighting are being installed by the Old Dominick Distillery family to create a welcoming arrival.

While the permanent signs are being fabricated, a banner, also approved by the Design Review Board, hangs above the distillery’s front door declaring: The Memphis Spirit returns.

All the particulars about Old Dominick Distillery and the Old Dominick line of spirits will be revealed early 2017.
